Description

If you’re looking for a quick, effective way to help your students who are struggling with Author’s Purpose, this is it! Interventions are a necessary part of the learning process for many students.  When tier-one instruction doesn’t quite do the job, interventions such as these come in handy to help fill gaps. This print AND digital resource is here to help!

One important component of successful interventions is breaking down the steps to the concept students are reviewing.  Within this resource, you will find interventions that do just that!

In this resource, you will find 5 intervention lessons, each focusing on a different angle from which to teach Author’s Purpose.  Each lesson comes with two pages:
  • the first page is a quick lesson plan followed by a teacher modeling portion. It’s imperative that teachers use this page to model the concept, focusing especially on the given steps.
  • the second page is the student practice page. Teachers will work with the student to complete this page following their modeling page.

A student might understand the concept after one intervention or it might take 3-4 lessons before mastery–that’s why we have given you 5 lessons!  Each lesson gives a unique perspective in breaking down Author’s Purpose in hopes to connect with a wide range of thinkers.  These lessons should take no more than 10-15 minutes and are perfect for small-group or one-on-one instruction.

The 5 lessons included in this resource are:
  • Ask Yourself a Question
  • Determine the Main Idea
  • It’s IN the Main Idea
  • The Most Important Words
  • You Be the Author

These lesson plans, while short and sweet, are detailed enough to use yourself or give to a teaching aide–especially since everything you need is included right in this file! Best of all, digital versions of the practice pages are included!!
