Back to School Close Reading Passages

Get your kids into the habit of close reading from day one of school with these informative and fun back to school close reading quickies.

My close reading quickies are designed to take 5-10 minutes a day. You use one passage for the entire week and each day has specific instructions on what to read and do. By the end of the week the students will have read the passage 3 times, completed 4 open ended questions, completed a graphic organizer, and replied to a reading response question. These are perfect time fillers, small group instruction, or even independent work!

For back to school I chose the following four titles:
Bus Safety
Being a Good Friend
Why Homework
Picking Just Right Books

These passages will be great pieces or introductions to topics you’ll already be covering in your back to school routine, why not enhance it more with a close read?
