Lesson 1: Students are grouped and are asked to organize story parts based on what part of the summary they are.
Lesson 2: Student color code summaries based on the summary parts
Lesson 3: Students cut, sort, and glue summaries with too little, too much, and just right information
Lesson 4: Students use sticky notes in groups to create a summary from a short text
Lesson 5: Students create a ‘blind date’ with a book display by wrapping books in brown kraft paper and writing their final summaries on the outside of the cover.
All activities are more hands on than normal summarizing worksheets. Direction pages and real photographs are also included! A graphic organizer, bookmark, anchor chart, craftivity, & center are all also included!
Each of the summarizing activities are designed to have a whole group and small group pieces and the lessons are designed to be done in order, but you of course can use the activities as you please!
