This is a fantastic author’s purpose activity that can be used in a variety of ways.

Students look at 12 different texts and book descriptions and decide what the author’s purpose is. On the recording sheet, students color in the piece of the pie as their answer. The purchase includes a powerpoint presentation, recording sheet, open-ended questions about author’s purpose, and answer key. (The recording sheets and answer key are only located in the PDF version – not in the powerpoint)

This activity can be done three different ways. The powerpoint and recording sheet can be used whole group or small group as a powerpoint.

Also, teachers can print the pdf slides (included) and place them in a center instead of a whole group activity.

Love technology? It ALSO includes the slides as JPGs. This way you can add the pictures of the slides to your tablet or iPad. Students can view the powerpoint on your iPad and complete the activity this way!
