Teach figurative language in a new, independent, and engaging way!

A powerful way to get students to learn a new concept is to get them to teach themselves, and a great way to do that is through reading. Last year I had my students learn all about figurative language through poetry close reads. Each ready to go printable has a paragraph introducing the students to this new writing device.

The students used their close reading strategy (reading three times, each time with a different purpose) to read the text. Afterwards, they created definitions of key words and then practiced the skill on the back with two engaging poems!

This packet includes printables for the following figurative language topics:

What is Poetry
Similes & Metaphors

Each comes with a double sided printable perfect for independent, partners, small groups and even whole group!
