Genre Activities

Description

One of the BEST ways to get students excited about reading is by allowing them to explore different genres! These print & go genre activities are designed to help you motivate your students to dive into a variety of genres and showcase their learning!

What is the purpose of this resource?

This resource is designed to spark interest and excitement for reading in your classroom! It is a way for students to explore different genres of texts, get out of their comfort zones, and FIND THE MAGIC in reading!

Students work toward a goal of completing a “Bingo” on their Finding the Magic board (4 connections across, up/down, diagonal, or the four corners). Students begin by choosing a genre on the board and reading a text of that genre. Then, students complete an activity connected to the genre.

• Fable (scrapbook)
• Legend (award)
• Fairytale (postcard)
• Drama/Play (top 10 list)
• Thriller/Horror (text messaging)

The activities are designed to be super engaging but also very simple and most importantly, very hands OFF from the teacher! Let your students explore and showcase their love and knowledge of genres.

Teachers can use the activities as suggested in the BINGO format OR simply use the individual activities as you need them in genre studies, centers, etc.
